It was about midmorning when the sunlight streamed into the window so that it hit Max squarely in the face. The kittypet blinked his eyes open, wincing against the harsh light. He was in an unusually grumpy mood, struggling to his paws with a yawn and grumbling to himself, "Stupid sun, glaring at me, waking me up like that--" The tom broke off, and all his grumpiness melted away. "Sunshine!" he cried. "Leaf-bare is over!"
Fully awake now, Max jumped off the wide windowsill he had been sleeping on, landing awkwardly because of his lame leg. Shaking it off, the tom trotted to another window. To his delight, he saw that it was indeed open, just wide enough for him to squeeze through. He leaped up to the sill and slid out of the window, jumping onto the backyard below.
Max straightened up, drawing in a breath of air. It was still a little cold, but newleaf had truly arrived; he could smell all the plants just waiting to grow. The black-furred cat gave his pelt an excited shake and trotted through the overgrown backyard, tail high. A leap brought his front paws to the top of the fence; his hind paws scrabbled against the smooth wood as he hoisted himself up, balancing ungracefully on the fence. He drew in a breath of air and was greeted with a glorious scent--the scent of life.
Max strode across the fence, tail held straight out behind him in an attempt to help his balance. He stopped when he had gone a quarter way across the wooden structure. He was now looking down into yard of another twoleg nest, the home of a cat he knew well. He just hoped she was home right now. "Aki!" called the tom, scanning the yard through his vivid green eyes. "Aki, are you there?"

Aki had been up for a while, her sleeping schedule was all messed up. She was sitting upon one of the counters in the room where her housefolk took food out of the shiny, tall tower and make it smell incredibly good by placing it on a very hot, shiny square. She glanced out the window and at the sun. She liked Leaf-bare more than New-leaf, but couldn't wine about it. Brown fur appeared with hints of red. Aki had to admit, she liked the warm sun on her fur, and the plants to smell in her garden.
Startled, she was when she suddenly spied a black cat upon the fence at the edge of the green field. She recognized the tom, and quickly got to her paws, but couldn't grip the cool slippery surface, and slipped, but continued running down the counter. At the edge she slowed her pace and lept off onto more tile. She was relieved when she reached the soft, tan flooring. She darted out the open door and into the garden. She grouped up her muscles and lept onto the fence next to him, her legs shaking from sudden use of her just now awakening muscles.
"Good Morning, Max" Aki replied, and blinked her brownish eyes. "New-leaf sure looks promising."

"Morning," Max mewed cheerily, waving his tail in greeting. He glanced up at the sky. The sky was bright and blue, and already the cool leaf-bare air was departing. "Indeed it does," he responded, giving his coat a shake before he spoke again. "My twolegs barely let me out all leaf-bare," he complained, although his tone was light. "And I haven't been to the barn in moons. Are you up for a walk there?"
Max turned to face the other edge of the fence, where the land led away from twolegplace and towards the nearby barn. Without waiting for Aki's response, he bunched his muscles, ready to leap down. He paused, glancing back at Aki. "What have you been up to these past few moons? I didn't see much of you, although that was mostly because I was cooped up in that nest all day," he added.

"A walk to the barn sounds lovely" Aki answered then hopped down from the fence onto the ground. Her brown tail was held high, she loved the company of others, and Max was one of her best friends. "I've just been going to the barn almost everyday. Playing in the snow with the other barn cats was very fun, I adore the snow," She commented softly, looking at the long line of fences.
"What about you? Being indoors the whole time must have been awful boring...." Her voice trailed off, imagining her being stuck inside. She would probably die, unless her housefolk got another cat for her to talk to, but if not, she could see herself dying of boredom. Her twolegs were alright, they petted her and didn't pick her up when she was grooming herself, or occupied. Maybe she could stand it.
Aki turned her gaze to the fence, where Max still stood. She could still smell the scents of her garden, and the mixture of many cats, but they weren't as strong.

Max dropped down after Aki, managing not to stumble this time. "Lucky you," he meowed. "That must have been why I never saw you; the twolegs only let me out around sunhigh and only when it wasn't very cold." Max rolled his eyes. "I might like snow more if it didn't mean I'd probably get stuck in the nest all day."
He began limping towards the barn before he answered Aki's question. "Yes, it was boring," he mewed after a moment. "I suppose they thought it was for my own good, but they need to realize I can take care of myself!" Max tried to sound indignant, but he was too excited about going at the barn and failed miserably.
"Actually, it wasn't too bad," he added as an afterthought. "The twolegs fed me--although fresh mice taste much better--and they got me new toys." Max grinned. "I don't know about you, but a good toy can keep me distracted for hours."
((We can move to the barn next post or so. ^^))

Aki padded after Max, still thinking of a reply to his statement. She got distracted easily, and heard sounds of doors opening and closing, and the chatter of twolegs. "I could probably do it with a few toys." She said while yawning. "Hmph. I haven't quite woken up yet. Maybe hunting for some mice at the barn will do me good." With that, she lept forward ahead of Max and her tail twitched with excitement.
"Come on, Max!" She called in a playful tone,"Let's hurry and get there before the chickens are up and about!" Aki turned to face the path that lead them to the barn and pranced down it, her brown-red tail high in the air.
