As the new-leaf sun begins to revive the mountains this year, the annual melt triggers an avalanche from above, crushing the Tribe of Gusting Wind's territory with tons of snow, rock, and debris. Only the cats that were in their cave survive, and it is pure luck that they were not sealed inside it. But many of their prey-hunters and cave-guards are gone, along with their territory.
Searches through the mountains for a new home fail, and the Tribe cannot stray far from the original den, their only shelter. With the Tribe starving, the Healer leads them down the mountain to warmer land, where hunting is still hard for the mountain cats outside their habitat. The trip down makes it obvious that if the bordering moors do not yield food or a home, they will not have the strength to climb back up and search for more mountain territory.
Luckily, the moors are already populated with CloudClan - a large, lone group of cats who have lived there for as long as anyone can remember. And with a bit of discussion, CloudClan allows the Tribe to share their almost borderless territory, and teaches them moor hunting.
However, a moon or two later, problems arise. The land the Clan and Tribe share, it turns out, does have borders - mountains and the edges of a Twolegplace surround it. Both are distant, and previously they would have been no problem. But the addition of the Tribe is making resources and territory stretch. Though not dangerously so, it is enough to be uncomfortable for the Clan cats used to plenty of prey, even with new-leaf beginning. Some cats insist that the recovered Tribe leave. But the Tribe is reluctant to, as previous searches for territory have failed, and their current home is so very comfortable. They are willing to fight for it, but if they are to stay, it may cause them even more problems.
Having been the sole group of cats in the land for a long time, the Clan has not needed to enforce many parts of the warrior code - there is no trespassing, or boundaries to be marked, or Gatherings. But some cats are being reminded of them by StarClan, back from when they were needed, and many believe the Tribe must be treated as a new Clan if they must compete for resources.
But the Tribe does not see things in the same light, and does not mark borders, or refrain from crossing CloudClan's. Their biggest concern is finding somewhere on their new territory where they can meet with the Tribe of Endless Hunting again, whether or not it is where they are allowed. Beyond Gatherings, they pay little attention to the Clan's new laws. Though not hostile, they do think the Clan is being silly, and CloudClan is indeed not eager to continue their duties against former friends.
