Name: Sableheart
Rank: Junior Warrior
Gender: Tom
Age: 20 moons
Affiliation: Cloudclan
Mentor/Apprentice: Sableheart is not mentoring material; but if requested, he would take and apprentice, if begrudgingly.
Kin: Goldenfur; mother, deceased. Sootfang; father, deceased. Two unnamed sisters.
Mate: None, and very oblivious to that sort of thing.
Appearance:
Sableheart is a relatively small cat. He remains relatively proportionate save for his long legs and tail, which gives him an appearance that would be decidedly fox-like had he had ginger fur. His paws are smaller than average, and decidedly dainty with extremely sharp claws; proof that he has never had to fight a serious battle. His whiskers are rather long compared to the rest of him, which gives him a definite plus in the tracking and searching department.
Sableheart’s fur is slightly longer than the usual for clan cats and is kept meticulously clean and silky. He’s almost completely black save for some flecks of gray fur around his eyes and face. His eyes are a luminous light green.
He has no scars or other discerning markings, seeing as there really are no battles to fight, or rival clans to fight with. He has gotten into disagreements before, but he does all he can to avoid a fight, because he would easily be overpowered. Taking this into consideration, his long legs and smaller paws make him a gifted runner. Sableheart most often carries messages between the camp and patrols or the clan and the tribe, making use of his speed and light frame to quickly cross all sorts of terrain.
Personality:
Sableheart has a bit of a different take on things than most clan cats. While others look to put the clan first, deep down, Sableheart always looks out for himself above all others despite the warrior code.
Speaking of the warrior code… Sableheart follows it because it is necessary, and is the opposite of zealous when it comes to it. He believes that things should be decided based on the situation, not due to some outdated code of ethics. His behavior has not made him very popular among the clan to say the least. However, he is fiercely loyal to the leader of the clan, and does all he can to help and protect.
Sableheart is very paranoid because of this, constantly living in fear that one day someone will figure out what he really thinks. This takes a big toll on his mental health, and he sometimes disappears for hours at a time, or doesn’t sleep for days at a time. He avoids the elders as much as possible. Sableheart is also very jumpy and prone to following his fight or flight instinct very religiously. If surprised, he will likely bolt, or try to go for a cat’s paws.
In love and friendship, Sableheart is very wary, cautious, and oblivious. He keeps all cats at least a paw’s length away, and keeps his thoughts to himself, gaining the tendency to go through unpredictable changes of mood. But when it comes to love, Sableheart just doesn’t get it at all. He goes from suave to clueless in three seconds flat before ignoring a poor cat for days on end. Most cats just don’t bother with him anymore.
Despite this, Sable is a gifted speaker if the need arises, having the power to negotiate and persuade. His paranoia gives him the ability to foresee most everything, and to read cats quickly and accurately, even if he chooses to avoid them most of the time.
History:
Sablekit was born in Greenleaf to Goldenfur and Sootfang along with two siblings that died before they could be named. Some cats said that this broke Goldenfur’s heart, seeing that it was her first litter. Sootfang died in a freak accident with an adder just a moon after Sablekit was born, and Goldenfur became somewhat distant and reclusive.
Sablekit was markedly quiet as a kit, and was apprenticed at a younger age than most in hopes that a mentor would draw the cat out of his shell. It didn’t really work. Sablepaw was polite and obedient, but he never tried especially hard to excel at anything, preferring to take things at his own pace regardless of what his mentor wished. However among his den mates, he reigned supreme. He could get his fellow apprentices to go along with almost anything he said.
During his last moons of apprenticeship, his mother went missing. After a long search, her half-eaten body was found near a fox den. Sablepaw disappeared as well for a day or so before returning to camp, jumpy and mistrustful. His naming ceremony was delayed for several moons, but eventually he was named Sableheart, taking into account what used to be his charismatic personality.
In the following moons, Sableheart was to be part of the first official clan patrol that made contact with the Tribe of Rushing Wind. Later on he would accompany several parties to meet and speak with the tribe. He came to envy their freedom from rules and structure and considered becoming a loner for a while, but the concept of change made him balk.
Now Sableheart primarily runs messages and patrols along the ‘border’ between the clan and the tribe. He treats the Tribe with suspicion, yet envies them, and would hate to see the new cats go. Sable simply seems to enjoy being able to look over the border, and to see that life could be different.
